This article is for our customers that buy our packets of dried herbs, and realize they are too valuable to pitch in the rubbish bin. This is one of our most frequently asked questions here at the Natural Heritage facility. Over the years we have heard some really interesting uses and ideas for the ‘spent’ Essiac Herbs from our Customers. We hope you will find one or more of these ideas helpful when deciding what to do with your ‘spent’ Herbs.

A large number of our Customers compost or work the Herbs directly into their garden soil.

Help keep the Wildlife Healthy. Scatter the Herbs outside, well away from the house, for Wildlife to pick at. We have seen birds, rabbits, deer, and chipmunks consume Herbs that have been scattered throughout our property.

Our Pet and Livestock Customers report great success in adding the Herbs to food. For dogs or cats: Mix a little into their wet food. It is best to start with a small amount so your four-legged family member can adjust to the texture and taste. For Fowl: Mix into feed or scatter for foraging. Horses & Livestock: Mix into feed. Some Livestock, Goats for example, will usually eat the Herbs as is. In our small Community, I buy eggs from a source that gives the ‘spent’ Essiac herbs to his Chickens. The taste and quality of the eggs is wonderful! (Not to mention the Chickens and Ducks are extremely Healthy)

Several frugal chefs have added the Herbs to salad dressings, soups, or stews. (‘Spent’ Essiac Herbs need to be refrigerated to keep from spoiling if they are to be consumed over a period of time by people or pets.) Or gently reboil the Herbs to make a pleasant cup of Tea.

Irritating Skin conditions? Make a compress or poultice. Take damp cool, or warm, Herbs and apply directly to the skin irritation. Secure with cotton gauze or other breathable dressing. Or…take a Bath! Gently reboiled the Herbs and add to warm or cool bathwater. Soak at your leisure. Include the chunky Herbs if you wish. We have heard testimonials ranging from Shingles, Eczema, Boils, unknown rashes or growths, and more, when used in connection with consuming the Essiac Tea. Put the water into a spray bottle for a refreshing spritz on hot days.

For those of you who make their own bar soap. Add some of the Herbs for gentle exfoliation.

We are always interested in learning new and different ways our Customers use their ‘spent’ Essiac Herbs. Please feel free to contact us so we may share with others.
